An African-American Man Overcomes Barriers, Including Racism,
to Rise from Private to General in the U.S. Army
DFW, TX – October 12, 2007 – Travel with author, Jerry Curry, from his job as a steel mill worker in the small town of Liberty, Pennsylvania, to young Private in the Army, and on to Major General. This African-American fought against the barriers of racism and elitism without compromise because of personal convictions that racism is wrong, refusing to become a victim in a white-dominated society, and refusing to be held back by his humble beginnings. Through his strong faith in God, he was able to beat the odds, and through his book, From Private to General, he shares new insights on racial harmony, challenges in the military, principles of leadership and the role of America in the world today.
From Private to General takes us through Curry’s many life changing experiences as he moved from post-partition Korea to Cold War Germany to the jungles of Vietnam and back onto American soil where he served in the White House and the Pentagon as Commanding General for the District of Washington D.C., Press Secretary to the Secretary of Defense and Administrator of the National Traffic and Safety Administration.
Many feel that General Curry would have become President if he had chosen politics for his career instead of the military, and indeed, he is still being urged to consider running for President.
From Private to General is a winner of the IPPY awards for multi-cultural non-fiction at the Book of the Year awards presented by Independent Publisher, “The Voice of Independent Publishing” at Book Expo America 2007. From Private to General is available wherever fine books are sold, including Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and Books-A-Million.com.
